‘Peachy Keen, Jellybean’!

Trends in kitchen interiors often mirror those emerging within fashion. 1950's style features heavily within the Autumn/Winter Collections, with designers such as Louis Vuitton, Tommy Hilfiger and Isabel Marant all turning to retro styling for inspiration.

Interiors and kitchen accessory shops are also awash with 1950's styling, as is the interior design press.

Just like this runway shot (Isabel Marant A/W 2010), the current reincarnation of 1950's Kitchen design has a softer modern appeal - soft furnishings are simplified and colour choices are varied.

Achieving this look rests on the detailing. A few well chosen accessories, such as a Dualit Classic toaster, a Roberts Revival Radio or a leather and chrome bar stool will give you the desired effect without looking like a fashion victim!

Seeking inspiration for my own 1950's kitchen I looked at specialist sites such as
www.cola-red.com and www.bigchillfridge.com. Original advertising from the era also provided me with a wealth of knowledge. (I promise pictures are on the way!)
